When "Alien 3" was in production, many people originally have thought that Stan Winston would be brought back to design the Runner Alien as Fox Studios had asked him, based on sketches that H.R. Giger had drawn up, but he turned down the offer, most likely to work on the dinosaur effects for "Jurassic Park", which later turned into one of the biggest box-office hits of 1993. But suggested that both Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff of Amalgamated Dynamics (ADI) to work on the Alien Effects. And this is where the troubles began coming to light.

This is a backstory from H.R. Giger's official website, where it talks about the troubles behind the production of "Alien 3". But the one part of that interview which caught my interest the most, where Giger mentions that he was very upset when he found out that Gillis and Woodruff had their own ideas for the Alien by downplaying his during a series of interviews. Even though he liked the final film, one could argue about what would would the Alien itself have looked like, if Stan Winston had worked on the effects based on Giger's original Beast Alien concept artwork. Despite not liking the effects of the Alien Warriors for Jim Cameron's "Aliens", Giger liked and was very impressed with the effects of the Alien Queen, which Winston received an Oscar for a year later. Not to mention, Stan Winston himself even acknowledged and respected H.R. Giger's involvment and work in the franchise.

When the "Alien vs. Predator" project was first talked about, British filmmaker Peter Briggs wrote his script during a 6-week period back in 1991, and he talks about in the above interview how he actually concocted a scheme to get H.R. Giger involved onto the project, as he felt his design for the original "Alien" was the most realistic, which is indeed true. And since Stan Winston designed and created the Predator, with James Cameron coming up with the brillant idea of giving the Predator its mandibles, it would've been quite an entertaining movie if these 2 master effects artists worked on the movie together. But unfortunately, Stan wasn't asked to be a part of "AvP" when it began production.

As many longtime fans of Stan Winston's work (myself included) found out about the interview, many have felt very disappointed and upset that 20th Century Fox and Paul Anderson never asked him to work on the Alien and Predator effects for "Alien vs. Predator" in favor of Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff of ADI. Even though Winston was quite upset at the fact he wasn't asked to work on the movie, he did wish them luck on the project and hope they do the creature's some justice. But due to Stan Winston's untimely passing on June 15, 2008, it looks like we'll never see his famous effects studio work on the Alien and Predator effects for an "AvP" film, or a stand-alone "Alien" and "Predator" sequel. Again, if Stan Winston had been asked to work on "Alien vs. Predator" but turned down the offer due to a scheduling conflict, then the public could understand why he never got the chance to work on the movie. And it was once rumored, that due to Stan Winston's passing, that his effects house Stan Winston Studios would be changing their name to Legacy Effects. Not sure whether this is correct or just a rumor, it would understandable as Stan truly is a legend in his field.
So I think it's a sad day in Hollywood where both effects masters H.R. Giger and Stan Winston, who created excellent creature effects that later turned into 2 of the most iconic characters in movie history, would get treated like this after working on the blockbuster "Alien" and "Predator" film franchises. Had both Giger and Winston worked on "AvP" together, not only would James Cameron and Sir Ridley Scott be quite impressed with the choices being made as well as the creature effects, but it could've been another sci-fi/horror masterpiece on par with the first 2 "Alien" films as well as the original "Predator".
So if anyone would like to see H.R. Giger and Stan Winston Studios work on another "Alien vs. Predator", even if it's for one last movie, you would both sign our petition as well as e-mailing Fox Studios directly.

So, we get our first sort of image from the 3rd film in the Twilight saga: Eclipse! Looks a little weak, if anything? Perhaps it's unfair to judge this with just the letters on their own.
It seems New Moon got the right colours from the book, with an earthy tone that suits the introduction of the Wolves - this is obviously trying to do the same thing, however the eclipse appearing from behind the P doesn't really work for me.
Hey what do I know? I'm a man... Still I have been imressed by what I've seen of New Moon so far and it appears to be miles away from the first film, which was a little too indie for its own good.
