More JJ Abrams success?
A new report is predicting that Fox's upcoming JJ Abrams series will be amongst the highest-rated new shows. Fringe will debut in the Autumn, although screener copies were leaked in May of this year sparking a chain of positive early reviews.
The show, co-created by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzmann (Alias, Lost, MI:3, Transformers, Star Trek), is about an FBI agent's investigations into bizarre scientific cases who is helped by a genius researcher and his estranged son. It's already being thought of as "the new X-Files". In the annual television reports from media researcher Horizon Media, speculative estimates of how every new show broadcast will fare. The analysis contains some expected claims - for example, established hits like NBC's Heroes will continue to dominant their hour in the schedules.
But there are also some surprises. In general, the report was skeptical about how well the new shows would compete against established rivals - with no new show expected to win it's timeslot in the 18-49 demographic (although this target group is no longer thought to be key to success) Horizon also predicts that CBS' remake of ITV drama Eleventh Hour will rate highly, along with ABC's upcoming reboot of the BBC time-travel show Life on Mars. (which is currently undergoing a complete overhaul following lacklustre opinions of it's first pilot)
(note to CBS - nobody watched Eleventh Hour and it even had Captain Picard in it...it's going to have to be a spectacular improvement to get people to stick with it.
