Battlestar Galactica’s first episode for almost a year, Last year’s cliff-hanger showed that Starbuck was still alive and that she had found Earth! Apollo, just happy to see Starbuck again, is ready to believe her, however the rest of the crew aren’t so convinced, especially since the fighter she’s in doesn’t have a scratch on it – as it was just out of the shop – but it carries on the identifications and markings of the ship she left/died in! On the other things, we have Tigh and the other three convinced they are Cylons (indeed the opening credits reveal that they are Cylons) after deciding that they will just carry on and not talk about it – it seems that isn’t so easy, even Tigh the one most against revealing anything, as flash to him drawing a pistol and shooting Admiral Adama. After going into the battle, Winter’s one of the 4 new found Cylons, actually goes face to face with a Cylon pilot who seems to track and scan him and then the enemy fleet is being recalled. Gaius Baltar, on the other hand appears to have attained some sort deity status amongst a few of the fleet (mostly women) where he treated with respect, and asked if he can help a sick boy – something that will test his conscience and possibly his faith. Starbuck, frustrated with the President’s refusal to listen to her claims about knowing the way to Earth, decides to take action into her own hands.... The above summary, makes this episode sounds exciting, and indeed for the first 10 minutes I’m smiling like a Cheshire cat, however it then seems to grind to halt. Repeating things that have happened in the last two seasons. Interesting that it is for Gaius, his character has long since gone past his sell by date. It seems as though we can’t wait for him to get off the screen, however he at least is starting to show some conscience and self sacrifice making us liking a little (just a little) bit more. The four new Cylons, newly revealed in the last episode, are now struggling with what to do – this had already been discovered by Boomer in season 1 – and seems a little bit of a rehash – even if it was a needed one. Starbuck is a welcome return however, even if she is having the “am I Cylon, not a Ceylon” syndrome that everyone else is experiencing. Her character though seems to be the oil in the water that brings Galactica’s inner turmoil and characterisation alive. I would like to say that this was a brilliant episode, however it’s starting to get over spilled with it multiple storylines and “Am a Cylon” cliché – on the good side, it was nice to return the universe again, after such a long break – and this alone makes it worth watching ; this and ending it on a cliff-hanger !!
