Middleman 1x08 - The Ectoplasmic Pan-Hellenic Investigation MM keeps you on your toes! In This Episode we have Tyler - the cute bus-boy from the Booty Chest (The pirate themed sports bar with the scantily clad waitresses (Arrr)) - who was given two-day amnesia by a beating from the Luce Libre wrestlers who were abducting Sensei Ping an episode or two ago, reappearing to mistake Wendy Watson's flatmate Lucy () for the Love of His Life who's actually Wendy. Lucy meantime has a 'thing' with MM (aka "pillow lips") himself. With me so far? Enter lots of awkward pauses and opportunities for misunderstandings. How's that for incidental back-story? OK beware multiple spoilers next... While all that festers away in the background, Dub and MM head for a local college, where Ghosts have been reported. By a freshman wearing a dress. Despite a certain lack of credibility it appears that his recent brain surgery (removal of his Pineal Gland) has given him the talent to hear very low frequency vibrations, and thus see ghosts. SPP #1 (Small plot problem) - the freshman was trying to infiltrate a Sorority house at the time. Dub has to go in alone and undercover. Ghostbusters this ain't (although look out for the Ghostbusters references...) because the ghosts aren’t dead - they're the displaced souls of the Omega Theta Nu managing board, victims of an evil plot to bring down the Sorority by having a wild party and getting its charter revoked. (Sidebar: Omega etc - Greek, OK? Hence Hellenic?) SPP #2 MM gets slightly inconvenienced by having his body hijacked and soul displaced by the chief baddy in process of some mischief. Cue some mistaken identity gags.. and MM makes a good girl. Anyway back to the meat - the Lacy/ Tyler/ Dub/ MM triangly-square thing is causing ripples.. Tyler was a Middleman potential recruit, so has a brain cell or two that might be dangerous to MM security. Lacy and Tyler however break up, putting Tyler back in the game and ready for a happy fade out with Dub-dub and Booty Chest wings on Tyler's back steps.. Looks as though he's a regular for a while. Like all the stories so far this seems to have lots of levels and will repay a revisit or two with IMDB and Wikipedia handy to look up the names that get thrown out. Ghostbusters is a given. MM doesn't take itself at all seriously, brings you along to have fun, and has a nice set of running gags - if there's ever a live in the background, don't waste time looking at the foreground action - there'll be a visual gag going on you might miss. Plus the rapid fire punny dialogue peppered with pop-culture and the multiple plot arcs all point to a bunch of people who pretty much know what they're doing and enjoy it a lot. |
