Terminator: TSCC was my favourite new show from last year; I was annoyed that it was cut short by the strike to only 9 episodes, as it started to really show potential.
Season 2's opening episode starts quite well, although it appears that last season's almost cryptic cliff-hanger is resolved almost immediately. Where we had seen the bartender guy walk off after bomb goes off. Apparently he does a detour and goes and beats up the Connor's - Cameron wakes from the explosion, dispatches a henchman, and supposedly comes to the rescue.. However on seeing John, she tries to kill him. Most of the episode deals with erstwhile good Terminator trying to off the Connors, this works well but perhaps are resolved too quickly. Perhaps making Cameron the villain over the course of a few episodes would have worked better? Kyle Rees' brother Derek is back on board with Sarah's ex-fiancé' - who's just witnessed the brutal massacre of an FBI team had the hands of the Evil Terminator. In fact considering how many Terminators turn up in this series, I'm surprised John is not killed earlier! Derek plays a bit-part in this episode with only few quip lines. Cameron is centre stage again, however we don't really see any new facet to her character, and it would have been nice to see a more evil Terminator; however she just plays it safe as the Terminator with no personality. Who knows what's going on in John Connors head, Cameron pleading to him that she loves him etc.. Is to me at least, obviously some sort of subterfuge.. I'm uncertain whether she is fine by the time the episode ends, because Johns spent some time 'rubbing' her chip (ooer missus) or that she had fixed herself - as she claims, when she's wedged between two trucks. It seems more likely that John repaired the chip, as at the end she reveals to Sarah, that she must not let John bring her back, if she goes 'bad' again. No explanation is given though as to what really happens here. Don't get me wrong though, there's still lots to enjoy here, lots of chasing, and an introduction of a new company and... The reveal of a new t-1000 like the one from Terminator 2. To be honest, the ending of this episode is brilliant, and appears to make the whole episode to be much better than perhaps it was. I'll enjoy the relation to movies and few throwbacks will be welcome as long as they don't become clichéd. Overall I impressed that I'm still enjoying the series, and hopefully this time we will get a proper season, with an overall arc that was missing from season 1. |
