TORCHWOOD 2:13 : EXIT WOUNDS
Written by Mike

Another great Episode of Torchwood, trust it to start getting good just before it ends!

To be honest, it was all a little convoluted just like it’s sister show Doctor Who (on tomorrow), however it was really enjoyable, lots of tension, witty one liners and very emotional.

So (SPOILERS!!) Jack’s brother has returned, however despite the previous episode stating Captain John was holding Gray captive it appears it is in fact Captain John who is being held captive by Gray through the use of some sort of molecular bomb, grafted to his arm!

Gray wants’ revenge on Jack for leaving him to the mercy of the Aliens who had invaded their world, after years of torture at the hands of the aliens, he’s gone a bit loopy and a bit evil.

After getting Captain John, to blow up the city, then release Weevils on the streets, Jack is brought back 27AD Cardiff.

In what must be one of the most horrifying experiences for anyone, jack is buried alive for 2000 years!! However Captain John sneakily provides him with a way out.

To say anymore would totally ruin the episode, suffice to say, this is much better than last series’ finale. The special effects are good throughout and we finally see some proper anguish on Jack and the rest of the team, in the form of Jack’s brother Gray. To be honest Gray comes over a bit boring, perhaps all his years being tortured has ruined his social skills, but for someone who came up with a pretty genius plan, he doesn’t really come across as that Evil (well apart from shooting someone.....) – Also the resolution between Jack and his brother is non-sensical, there’s really no sort of resolution to their problem and the whole confrontation takes less than 2 mins.

However James Marster’s Captain John, more than make up for it, ok he’s essentially playing Spike, but hey Spike was cool and so is Captain John in his Bi-Sexual double innuendo way. He has some of the best lines.  His acting, actually seems to improve the rest of the Torchwood cast, both Ianto and Gwen seem much improved in this episode.

Tosh and Owen, have the most emotional scenes in the episode, and anyone who isn’t tearful watching them at the end of the show, well you’re just not human!

Overall I would consider this a very good episode.

Gwen’s copper friend has some brilliant lines:

“Where have all the Weevils gone?” / “To abergavenny?”

Classic!

Series two was an improvement on series 1, although it really needs some sort of proper Arc, they really should have introduced Gray earlier on in the series and gradually shown his betrayal, Russell T Davis seems to like copying Buffy/Angel, why not bring on a nice BIG BAD – this would improve the series immensely – as it is – Torchwood is a good, if not exceptional series that just needs a good push to get it over that line!
